How to get here

Peebles is readily accessible from any direction. It is well served by public transport (bus) and has major routes approaching from the north (A703), east and west (A72). And don’t forget the new Borders Railway.

By road, Peebles is approximately:

  • 30 minutes drive by car from Edinburgh
  • 60 minutes drive by car from Glasgow
  • 90 minutes drive by car from Carlisle
  • 2 hours from Newcastle

Programming your sat nav with postcode EH45 8SL will bring you to the High Street which is in the centre of the town.

Car parks

There are four main car parks in various parts of the the town all offering a large number of spaces.

By bus

The region’s bus service operator is Borders Buses which links all the major towns within the Borders. National Express links the Borders to Newcastle.

The journey to Peebles takes a little under one hour from either Edinburgh or Galashiels and runs approximately every 30 minutes (please check times ahead of your journey)

From Edinburgh, the bus route continues on from Peebles to Galashiels and/or Melrose and the bus to Peebles will normally be identified with either of those names plus via Peebles.

From Galashiels, buses are identified as Edinburgh via Peebles (please note there are two separate routes leaving Galashiels for Edinburgh, one of which does not come via Peebles).

By rail

The new Borders Railway opens up a whole new way of reaching Peebles and the wider Scottish Borders when travelling from the capital. Take the train from Edinburgh Waverley to Tweedbank where there are connecting bus services. Another option is to cycle, with lovely routes available between Tweedbank and Peebles.
